Brain Lawrence, 67, planned to escape from Parkhurst last week using helicopter flights at the Isle of Wight Festival as cover. He was a retired schoolteacher, who had battered a friend to death because he was dating his ex-wife and was planning to kill two other people. Lawrence had communicated with his accomplished by writing letters with lemon juice and codes hidden in Sudoku puzzles. The Ministry of Justice said that Lawrence draw a map and gave instructions for where the helicopter should land. Lawrence has been transferred to another prison. Barry Greenberry, governor of HMP Isle of Wight, is proud of his security team that they have discovered the escape attempt of Lawrence on time.
I think it is weird that the letter or the puzzles haven’t been checked by the security team in the first place. If the have checked the letters they would see that the letters where unwritten and that something wasn’t right. That way Lawrence never got the change to send information to his accomplish. But they where lucky that they had found a clue; ‘more heat, less light’. If the security team never had discovered that clue they would have been unaware of the escape plans of Lawrence and he would have escaped form jail and would have been in Spain before the security have figured out how Lawrence had escaped.
